squiggyfm Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 Hello all - l'm looking to apply to a PoliSci MA program this winter and thought I'd get a head start on the SOP. They're lookin for 500 words and any advise would be appreciated! (it should be noted that I'm already at the same school and in the undergraduate program attached to this) Europe is not only the birthplace of western culture but today it shares a deep-rooted democratic tradition and stands at an exciting crossroads. Should it further unify to help fight future disease and illiberal threads? Or should the European Union cede authority back to the member states to stave off increasing Euroscepticism? I am excited to apply to the Blanketyblank program to understand these questions and to further opportunities to take part in what the future may hold. My interests in Europe were initially based on its long and well-documented history. Through my undergraduate studies in the Contemporary European Studies program, I gained not only a deeper understanding of that history but how differences in each country’s past have framed their views on everything from citizenship to security. My return to higher education has also coincided with Brexit and the very future of the European Union, issues that I find both professionally and personally fascinating, and I have geared my undergraduate research to this topic. From documenting British media’s framing of immigration during the final days of the campaign to analysis on the arguments for and against, I have endeavored to research as much as I can on the issue of Brexit. It is to this end that I hope to dedicate my future research at the University of Bath. By documenting firsthand experiences of the strengths and the weaknesses seen between the European Union and the United Kingdom, I hope to be able to contribute to any future relationship between the two. By completing a graduate degree, I also hope to be a more attractive candidate for employment in Europe, so I can give my family, and most importantly, my two young daughters all the opportunities that have been available to me. As a non-traditional student, I feel I can offer a unique perspective. Not only do I personally remember a divided Europe, but a world split between the east and west – a liberal and illiberal. As a current contemporary European student, I’ve been lucky enough to get a modern perspective from some of the world’s foremost experts in Europe. Considering this view, my undergraduate familiarity, and a deep passion for providing a better life for myself and my family, I believe I am an ideal candidate for the Blanketyblank Program. As a child, I remember the advancement of liberalism that occurred after the Cold War and the economic prosperity seen with the peace dividend in the 1990s. The growing world view and sense of community that accompanied the strengthening of the European Union over the last several decades is something I hope my young daughters will also experience. I am not only invested in returning stability and reason to the international stage for myself – but also them. My dedication to this end is absolute. Thank you for your consideration.
dingdingoo Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 I highly recommend you send your SOP or essay to an expert. I worked with Brian at Gurufi for my graduate school application and he did an excellent job! He was thorough and very responsive. He is very quick to respond and is very patient and friendly. He elevated my writing to a professional level while still maintaining my voice. Brain, again, worked his magic and revised the essay down to fit the caps. I would highly recommend Brain for anyone that's struggling with their essays!!
