Hi! I am planning on applying to various Master’s in DS/Stats programs for Fall 2021.

Type of Student: South Asian Female

Undergrad Institution: Mid-ranked regional university
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.3 (Major dip in my sophomore year)
Courses (In order, Graded from A-E, with A+): Calculus - 2 (B), Calculus - 3 (A), Discrete Mathematics and Graph Theory (B), Set theory and Probability (C), Data Structures (C), OOP (D), Embedded Systems (D), Programming Techniques (B), Operating Systems (A), Algorithms (A), Parallel Programming (A), Stochastic Processes (A), Cryptography (A), Engineering Economics (A+), Computer Vision (A+), Predictive Analysis (A), Neural Networks (A+)

Programming: C++, Python, R, SQL

Q: 165 (85th percentile)
V: 161

Programs Applying: Master's in Statistics/Data Science

Research Experience: 2 REUs in NLP at top ranked labs with no publication, multiple DS related class projects

Work Experience: 1 year in a Data Science position in a tech firm.

Letters of Recommendation: 1 from my stat professor who is aware of my projects outside the class, 1 from my present manager, 1 from my research advisor at one of the labs or advisor back at university.

Research interests: Learning theory, NLP

Universities: Columbia (DS), NYU (DS/CS), Stanford (ICME/Stat), Harvard (DS)
Mostly worried about not being able to get a letter from my research advisors (both of whom I am unable to reach out to), bad quant percentile and my disastrous sophomore year.
