xnc
Hello all, I'm currently a senior going into my final semester for Public Health Education after switching from the BSW program a year prior. My minor is in substance abuse prevention and treatment. It was also a semester before COVID hit. I've done fairly well in my courses so far -- cGPA is 3.75 -- after taking one entire semester P/F. My lowest grade so far was psychological stats which I received a C in because we switched to online after the second exam. A couple group projects I've completed were a completed grant proposal and a hypothetical prevention program for adolescent youth violence. This is when I've realized I enjoy grant writing and program evaluation, and policy more than epidemiology or statistics. My main focuses are policy, management, etc. as I've said but I've worked in the healthcare field for 5+ years after high school as a caregiver and a certified nurses aide. So, I know the clinical aspect but less of the administrative stuff but I have strong interest in the latter due to how it's being ran in the current age. My current plan was to apply to my universities MPH program for Fall 2021 or switch completely different to Information Systems because I do not think I have much interest in the clinical side of public health. With my background, would a MSW be more versatile in my later career as compared to a MPH? I'm mostly looking at programs which have a macro focus (Michigan State is the only local one) due to my interest in policy and program implementation, but my choices are limited. However, I'm not opposed to clinical programs as I'd also enjoy working in the mental health or substance misuse/abuse prevention. I'm just unsure if either focus can be interchangeable in terms of employment. Finally, a little off topic, but how do I go about getting a third LOR? I have one from my undergraduate advisor and professor (she's faculty) and I could probably get another one from my epidemiology and biostatistics professor. Would it be ok to ask a professor who I only have one class with for a LOR? Thanks in advance.
