Research internships abroad in North American universities

Hello everyone,

I am currently studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering and want to go abroad to NA preferably US for a research internship this summer. How should i go on about this? I have a Cover Letter and CV but I am afraid that COVID might hamper my efforts. Do you know the best way to reach certain professors to ask them for a research internship over the course of this summer? And also how effective would these internships would be while admitting to Master's Degree in prestigious colleges?
