CMU/UCSD, Can I enroll in two Master Programs at the same time or defer one of them and enroll in the other first?

Hi,

I got accepted into CMU and UCSD with slightly different programs.  Can I:

1. Enroll in CMU and defer my UCSD application to Winter Quarter of the same year (push back by one quarter). Once I finish CMU Fall quarter, I discontinue my education and start learning at UCSD on winter quarter and after for rest of my master's education.

OR

2. Accept offers from both CMU and UCSD before April deadline, go to CMU for the fall semester while doing a Leave of Absence at UCSD for fall quarter, then after fall semester, discontinue at CMU and start my education at UCSD during winter quarter.

Is this legal or allowed? I know this must be really weird as why someone would just one to go for a semester and continue at another school, but I have thought this through, I just want to know if this is feasible.
