MajorPsych82 Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Hello. If someone out there can help me with this problem I would really appreciate it... I graduated from undergrad in 1998 with a 2.8 GPA (ouch!) My major back then was Television Production. I have since gone back to school for an MA in General Psych. I am graduating with an MA this year (12 yrs after my undergrad) Here are my stats: MA GPA 3.9 GRE 1200 Psy GRE 670 2 articles published 1 poster presentation 1 yr clinical experience 2 years Research experience in three separate labs Master's Thesis My letters of recommendation should be good. Do you think my undergrad GPA in '98 will rule me out of many schools? I'm planning on applying to mid-tier schools for a Clinical PhD. Thanks for your input!

Even if your undergrad gpa was from 2 years ago because it is in a completely different field adcomms wouldn't pay any attention to it. The MA GPA also further warrants ignoring the undergrad gpa. You should be fine.

anselmo1 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 I'm curious, how did you get into Master's program in the first place if your undergrad major wasn't Psych? Did you take many Psych courses as undergrad? I'm asking because I'm contemplating getting into Psych (I'm an undergrad majoring in biology right now). Thanks.

My guess its because its a MA in general psych so its easier to get into than something that is specifically applied. On another note, I hear from alot of PhDs in different areas of psychology stating that schools prefer candidates that are older than fresh undergrad graduates so thats going for you. Another tip is to continue practicing for the GRE, both general and subject. Edited August 25, 2010 by chak
