llucyy Posted April 2, 2021 Posted April 2, 2021 Hi all! I'm looking for some advice on where I should go to grad school. I've applied to programs in or related to artificial intelligence. So far, I've been accepted to Northeastern University and Utrecht University (in the Netherlands), both for an MS in Artificial Intelligence. I still haven't heard back from Columbia University, but I've seen from previous years that some applicants didn't hear back until late May! I need to make a decision about Northeastern soon, because they have placement tests at the end of April, and if I took those then I'd want time to review some material! Right now I've basically decided that I should put down a deposit for Northeastern or Utrecht and if I get into Columbia later, then figure out what to do then. My questions are: Should I attend Northeastern or Utrecht, specifically does anyone have a good idea of which would be better in a job market? Does anyone know what US employers think of European degrees? I've put a short pros and cons list below: Northeaster--Pros: The program incorporates ethical considerations (important to me), I've heard they're good at helping with job placements, when I was applying people were very helpful and available to speak with me, I have a close friend who lives in Boston Cons: I tried to find some profs I'd be interested in working with when I was applying, but none really jumped out at me. Utrecht--Pros: Interdisciplinary curriculum (I like this), in the Netherlands (I've lived in Europe before, and would like to live there again) Cons: Might be worse for getting jobs in the US, program is less science-focused (it's still an MS, but this also might be less attractive to employers) Finally, should I wait out Columbia? I could wait another week, I just can't decide. Also Columbia's not necessarily my first choice, because I've heard very mixed things about their program (e.g. Columbia only offers the MS in CS to get money, but employers will still love a Columbia degree because of the name). Does anyone have any information on Columbia's MS in Computer Science (I would specialize in Machine Learning or Natural Language Processing)? Sorry for such a long rant! Any info at all would be helpful!
