WritingEllie Posted April 12, 2021 Posted April 12, 2021 Hi, everyone! I was wondering if anyone had any experience with/insight into the New School Creative Writing MFA that they could share. I was accepted with a 50% scholarship, but it would still put me into quite a bit of debt, and the cost of living is very high. I like the New School's track record with publishing, which is my primary goal, but I'm not sure if that justifies the cost. I'm currently deciding between the New School MFA and an MA in Creative Writing from the University I attended for undergrad. That school is not as strong in getting people published in the field I'm working in, and I'm kind of hoping to expand my horizons and make new connections, plus I was hoping for an MFA, not an MA. However, I know the school and I know that I'd get a good education, and it's a well-funded offer that I wouldn't have to go into debt for. Part of me feels like I should go with the MA and try to get an MFA (or PhD) later so that I can be a more competitive applicant, but part of me feels that's just delaying a repeat for the same results for this round, and I should just take the MFA offer I have. So I'm looking for any information on the New School to try and make a better-informed decision. Thank you for any help!
