ruatipoki Posted May 24, 2010 Posted May 24, 2010 I would greatly appreciate any advice on suitable US University departments who may have an interest in research into Post Soviet Color Revolutions Research.
Penelope Higgins Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 LOTS of options here, since lots of work is being done on these - it depends on what approach you want to take. I would start with the following schools/advisors: Princeton (Beissinger) Harvard (Levitsky/Colton) NYU (Tucker) Yale (Darden) Wisconsin (Herrera/Gelbach) If Canada is an option for you, working with Lucan Way at Toronto would also be a possibility. As always, the way to pick schools is to find faculty who are doing the kind of work you find interesting. ruatipoki Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 Double take Many thanks for your advice Beissinger and Tucker look very good matches I woud expect that Beissinger probably has a line down the block queing up for him though..... Not being american, I was wondering about appropriate etiquete for initiating contact Is it appropraite to directly contact Professors with a proposal 2000 to 5000 words?
Penelope Higgins Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 You should do a search on this board for relevant discussion, but in my opinion there is no need to contact faculty. I would simply write a strong statement of purpose (on the short end of the length range you mention or shorter) and apply for admission to the university. This view of the process is based on my experience both as a grad student and as a faculty member. Others on this board have found it useful to contact faculty before applying; you should search the board for discussions of how to go about doing so.
