Funding for an internaitonal Uni not on the FAFSA list

Hello,

I hope that this messageis in the right location as my issue might be somewhat non-traditional.

I am hoping to enter graduate school in the Fall of 2011 to continue my studies. I am currently working at the moment at my old university UNC Charlotte in North Carolina between education while I sort out what needs to be done. The schools that would like to attend are either The University of Jyvaskyla in Jyvaskyla, Finland or Akita International University, in Akita, Japan. Both of these schools are not on the FAFSA list of universities that I can take out a graduate loan for, the ones that allow deferment of payment for six-months after graduate, or simply deferment of payment at least while in school. I am trying to find other options as to how I can finance my studies at either one of these universities, so I wanted to post on this site, (since everyone seems very knowledgable and helpful here!) to see if you all might have some options, advice, or direction for me.

Personal or Private bank loans seem to all require immediate payback on the loan once the money is accessed. With my financial position being that I cannot determine whether I will be able to work while I am in school (or, at least enough to support my daily costs plus the monthly loan payments). Scholarships are certainly a plan of mine to apply for, but with applications and payments and the timing of it all being fairly rigid, it’s very difficult to plan on attending the university based on scholarship winnings or lack thereof. So I am trying to find an option that would be a back up or a filler of the space that I could not personally finance or get scholarships to finance. I have only attempted once to negotiate about a private loan structure with my bank, which proved to be futile. I may very well by next year be capable of paying for a full year plus first-year expenses of school, but would be left stranded in the second year once my personal savings ran out. Also, I was told about something called “Title IV Aid” from FAFSA to look into. Can this be a solution?

If anyone would have any advice for me as to other routes or venues to pursue to help with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. Please, I truly need some help with this dilemma. I have already had to decline an acceptance last year to the University of Jyvaskyla due to this financial issue, and I am getting a jump on it once again to try to find a solution before application deadlines are back in the picture.

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Manji

Nothing to say about your funding situation, sorry. Though I can say that Akita is BEAUTIFUL. The Tohoku region of Honshu is a natural beauty year-round. I don't know if you've been to Japan before, however, don't expect much in the way to connection to major metropolitan cities via Akita. Sendai is close, and interesting. There is a night train running from Akita to Kyoto that isn't too expensive. All the same, living in Tohoku is not living in Tokyo.

Good luck finding funding.
