What type of force is it when you're slicing something?

Like when you use an apple to cut a knife. I know you're putting force on the knife, and the apple is pushing against your knife from the table underneath it being grounded. But what about the very sharp blade of the knife carving into the apple? Is it pushing away two sides in opposite directions? Is there a special type of force that this is called?
