Profile Evaluation for Condensed Matter Theory/High Energy PhD prospective student

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I have finished my undergrad from the topmost university on Physics in Bangladesh. I want to keep my options open for both CMT and HEP. I'd really welcome suggestions and feedback.

My profile:

CGPA: 3.21 (Senior and Junior year 3.41)

GRE: 324(Q:168) [2021]

TOEFL: 105 [2021]

PGRE: 730 [2019]

Research Interests: Condensed Matter Theory [Relevant grades: SSP I+II - 4.0+3.5, Statistical Mechanics - 3.5], High Energy Th/Ex [Relevant grades: QM I+II - 3.5+4.0; Particle Physics - 4.0], Computational Physics [Relevant grades: Intro to C++ - 4.0; Computational Physics - 3.5]

Research Experience: Working on a DFT project for 8 months. Currently writing the paper, might not be finished by the time I apply in mid-October.

Computational Skill: VASP, Quantum Espresso, EPW code; C++, Python, LaTex, Matlab

Miscellaneous: Attended two HEP spring/winter schools in Bangladesh. Self-studied QFT I and GR, which I plan to mention in the SOP (should I?).

LOR: One from my supervisor(CMT), and one from the Particle Physics course instructor(HEP) who knows me very well.

These are what I've chosen:

UChicago, Illinois

Case Western

RochesterU

KentuckyU

OklahomaU

TempleU

SUNY Buffalo

Darthmouth

Syracuse

OhioU

Virginia Tech
