Hello Everyone,

Didn’t see a SDSU MSW thread for 2022 so I thought I’d create one. Anyone applying for the MSW program at SDSU for 2022? I’m curious as to what your GPA is and how many hours of social service work experience you had at the time of applying!

Hello! I applied for the fall 2022 MSW. My CSUSM gpa is 3.98 and my overall GPA is 3.89. I’m a sociology major and I had approx 750 hours of volunteer experience.

Amazing stats! I only have a 3.6 myself so I'm a little nervous. I applied for the 1 year program and I know that it is extremely competitive.

Honestly I don’t think GPA carries that much weight. I think they take everything into consideration with additional emphasis on experience and your essay. With that said, you’re right, it’s an extremely competitive program, especially considering the low cost. You’re GPA is excellent, wishing you good luck!

Did you apply to any other programs? I recently received my letter of acceptance from Columbia but still waiting for the CSU schools that I applied to. Not expecting to hear back until early spring ?.

I applied to the Advanced Standing program. Has anyone contacted admissions about when we'll hear back? I was scrolling through last year's thread and someone mentioned they had double the amount of applicants!

Still haven’t heard about anyone getting any decisions yet. I hope that it’s soon! I’m getting so anxious.

Same here,  I heard some current Advanced Standing students last year apparently didn't hear back until a week before summer session started.. I hope it isn't as busy this year.

Glad you started a thread! I had about 2,000 hours of experience and a 3.7 GPA. I emailed the admissions email and they said to expect a decision between early March and mid-April!

I also applied and my GPA is no where as high as any of yours. I do have a lot experience and I am also a male. A lot of my colleagues told me this was an advantage. I hate to use that as an advantage but would like to see applicants are based on that.

Undergraduate Major: Social Work (San Diego State University)

Undergraduate GPA: 4.0

Education: AS - Social Work / AS - Alcohol & Other Drugs Studies / Certificate of Achievement - Alcohol & Other Drugs Studies / Bachelor's of Arts - Social Work

 

School's attended:

Montgomery Adult School - High School Diploma

San Diego City College

San Diego State University

 

Work Experience: 4 Years total

MAAC Project - SUD Counselor

Union of Pan Asian Communities - SUD/MH Case Manager

San Diego Housing Commission - Housing Specialist 

City of San Diego - Mayor/City Council Management

County of San Diego - Child Welfare Agency / Case Aid

 

I hope this post helps future applicants as did forums really help me get a scence of a student profile for an MSW program.

I did, but had some issues with my transcripts and financial aid. Therefore, I don't know if my application was cleared for review. I did apply to UCSD - MPP and was accepted last week I'm just waiting for financial aid package and SDSU's decision to make the choice. ?? Those are definitely my top 2 school's before CSUSM.

Congratulations to those of you who were accepted into the advanced standing program! 

I applied to the two year full time at both SDSU and CSUSM and have not heard back.

I was admitted to SJSU last week and Columbia University in mid January.

I have an interview with CSUN coming up.

I know the wait is brutal, hang in there~☺️

I still haven't heard from CSUSM either, and I applied to the 1 year program which requires an interview.. I was under the assumption that CSUSM always releases their decisions before SDSU, so I was surprised to hear from SDSU so early. Hopefully we hear back soon! However I already accepted my offer to SDSU.

Congratulations! I am in a MSW applicant group on Facebook and we have had quite a few SDSU Advance standing acceptances. They must of started early as April was the given time frame.
