GRE subject tests-- could they serve as substitutes for...

So a program I'm applying to requires some sciences I didn't take as an undergraduate (damn Brown's lack of a core curriculum and damn those delightful writing-for-fun classes)-- and now it looks like I have to pay money that i don't have to take these courses--- i was wondering if excellent scores on the GRE subject tests would exempt me from having to take, say, chemistry or physics? Has this worked out for anyone in a similar situation?
