Hello everyone, this is the thread to share our experiences for applying to Nuclear Engineering programs this cycle. My profile is on PhysicsGRE: https://physicsgre.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=181959#p256786

Have you heard from UW-Madison, MIT, Washington, etc?

Good luck to everyone.

Hello there! Great to see someone else applied to NE here!

I applied to five schools; MIT, Umich. UW-Madison, NC State, Berkeley.

I only received from Madison an email inviting me to the open house, and that's it. I also emailed professors, but only one replied to me encouraging me to apply, and attended the ANS graduate school fair as well.

I am an international student, currently doing my masters in NE at a good ranking school in Asia with my bachelors also in NE. Current GPA is at 3.71, one journal publication, one conference presentation and one conference poster.

Also, I am applying to the Nuclear Materials groups.

I also have the invite for the Madison Open House in Feb-11.

I am applying to Plasma Groups so I guess we don't compete.

Thanks man! I was bombarded bad by EPFL, my reject came in almost as I left the Zoom meeting, been feeling really down lately! Don't let stuff like that happen to you! There is more to life than the opinion of some professors you have never met before.

Oh, I can only imagine how it feels so soon after the interview, but do not let it discourage you! The way I see it, we only will attend one place, so we only need one acceptance really. Your profile is insanely good, and you said it yourself, so don't let these professors' opinions have too much weight!

an update from here, I got the rejection email from MIT, but I wasn't expecting much, neither was it my first choice, so it didn't affect me much.

Hey there thanks for the kind words. I got my admit to MIT, and I think I am going there, so I will probably start declining/withdrawing next week. I still have to meet with some people at University of Wisconsin-Madison and I want to see what kind of offer I get (if I get any) before making a final decision. But alas, I am one less person to worry about in your programs.

Congrats!! That's some great news!

I have a small question regarding your UW-M interview before the open house.
Did you reach out to a prospective advisor after the application?

I reached out before submitting the application and got no reply, but I didn't email back after, and just received the Open House invitation..

I did not email before. But I did email after the application and did receive an invite to an interview with a professor.
