I am attending a pretty good university in Asia (top 3 in the country and top100 in QS ranking) and I'm applying for PhD in Biostat in US. However, in my department, except for my advisor, I'm not close with any professors, nor have I done research with them. But I did a research in a hospital from a university that is not famous nor high-ranked. I'm still keeping in touch with the professor (who is a doctor(MD. PhD) without any statistics background). Will it be helpful if I get a rec letter from the doctor instead of a random professor in my department?
