eyeofoma Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 i'm currently in SMFA's grad program, and could really use some good old fashioned advice from all you wise art owls out there!! i decided to come here last fall having received a half tuition merit scholarship, and i have a lot of love for smfa's interdisciplinary program (i paint but also do animation, installation etc). i love the program's conceptual rigor and its free-for-all emphasis on exploration... however after a year in the program i'm having serious misgivings about whether it's the place for me to develop as a painter, given that so many of the students in my community are smitten with post-studio, relational aesthetics-type work. i am seriously missing having a good community of object makers around, and am thinking of reapplying to SAIC, where i had an interview last spring, and some other more painterly programs. however i'm really worried about risking all the good things i have going at SMFA, which includes some amazing faculty mentorships, TA-ing, not to mention it's a little easier on the old wallet. needless to say, i'm pretty torn and would LOVE some advice!! many thanks, i'm mighty grateful in advance!
