Alduin Posted April 27, 2022 Posted April 27, 2022 (edited) I am currently in the third semester of my MS CS program, and my fourth semester is going to be a thesis semester (which is a P/F grade always). Except for algorithms (which is a hard course pretty much everywhere), I have all As so far. Algorithms is a B. Say I get all As in this semester. What would be a better profile to go into applications season with? Profile A: GPA ~ 3.8, 1-2 conference submissions possibly 1 acceptance, a good master's thesis, 2 years software dev experience prior to master's degree (probably irrelevant for PhD applications), 168 GRE Quant, MS degree completed in FOUR semesters Profile B: GPA 4.0, 3-4 conference submissions possibly 2-3 acceptances, Algorithms course retaken, everything else as per profile A, but MS degree completed in FIVE semesters What I am trying to judge is how much of an issue is it for PhD applications if I take an extra semester to graduate from your master's program. Thank You! Edited April 27, 2022 by Alduin
