lifelonglearning Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Hello, I know this will sound kind of funny but was wondering if there was a standard way to calculate GPA on a four point scale for when applying to US grad schools? My (Canadian) school uses a 12 point scale (below) which is obviously different than most others. I'll finish with around a 10.8. The thing that makes me ask the question is the 90-100% A+, the 85-89% A and the 80-84% A- where on most scoring systems A's are worth 4 but are 90-100% and B's are worth 3 but are 80-89%. For us 80-89% is A or A-. Do I use the percentage or the letter? Or is there a special way to calculate when 80-89% = A or A-? Thoughts?
fadeindreams Posted August 10, 2010 Posted August 10, 2010 Most universities that I know of will ignore any self-reported GPA from international students. They will either have their own method of converting GPA or they simply will require you to submit a credential evaluation from an approved company. An example of an approved company would be WES. My recommendation is to contact the general graduate admissions of the schools to which you are applying.
