Hello all! I'm new here and I need some advice on writing a statement of purpose.

I'm applying to a special education grad program this spring and I've been confused concerning the SoP. I churned one out, but my boyfriend who is already in grad school thought it was too bland and general. The word limit is only 250 words and it has to include my experience, goals, and background. My boyfriend was advising me to be more specific and to include interests of mine that correlate with the faculty's philosophy. The only thing is, his SoP could be 750 words long so it's a little difficult to accomplish what he's talking about.

Any suggestions on how to stand out but maintain brevity? Thank you so much!
