Which writing sample should I send with my PhD application?

The PhD program I am applying for requires a writing sample, I have a few ides in mind but I was wondering if anyone has guidelines to help me choose the right one that hopefully gets me admitted.

You should definitely go for a paper you wrote in one of your classes in your target field. If you don't have one, then I would choose a research that demonstrates your skills: ability to conduct an argument, excellent writing, and demonstrated ability to manage the research protocol/apparatus: footnotes, bibliography, etc.
