NYC2010 Posted September 11, 2010 Posted September 11, 2010 (edited) Hi, I currently work at a rating agency and want to continue as a public finance analyst. I am considering only the MPA at NYU Wagner because I can go part-time, or change to full-time if needed. I am wondering how strong the program options are for careers in public finance. I would love to work for a state or local government in finance, but I'd prefer a Wall Street position. I think I can easily get a job at my own company, but if I ever had to switch, are MPAs well regarded in NYC? What about NYU's MPA in particular? Also, the application is geared towards those interested in public service. While I volunteer often and hold many leadership positions, I don't have any significant government or Peace Corp./TFA/AmeriCorp.-type experience. Would this hinder my application? (I am leaning toward an MPA because I've heard from professionals in the market that the MBA is losing relevance in favor of more specific programs. Since I want to work in public finance, this seems like a fit.) Edited September 11, 2010 by NYC2010 MPP Maestro 1
MPP Maestro Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 NYU is great if you want to stay local and not that tough to get in so I would not be that worried. What have you heard about mba in the private sector? How do mpp's rank in terms of prospects?
