athenianstranger Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I took my GREs over three years ago before entering an MA program. I scored 660 V (94th percentile), 570 Q (42nd percentile), 5.5 AW. I'm applying to Claremont, UT Austin, University of Dallas, Michigan State, Georgetown, WashU, and LSU for political theory for Fall 2011. My quant score is pathetic, but I'm wondering how much it will matter for a theory applicant. Should I retake the exam? My undergrad GPA is 3.9 and my MA GPA is 3.8.
adaptations Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I don't know how the quant score is viewed for Theory applicants, but if you think you can do better, I would suggest a retake. All of the programs are quite competitive, so if there is a way to improve your application, why not take advantage of it?
interista Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 Definitely retake the GRE. I got a 1510 and didn't get funding at GTown (got rejected at WashUÂ too). My grades weren't as good as yours but I had a strong app otherwise. I've heard that theory programs do take into account quant scores (as a supposed metric of analytic aptitude). Study up on the math and you'll be good to go.
athenianstranger Posted September 20, 2010 Author Posted September 20, 2010 Thanks for the responses. I'm studying GRE math right now and will be taking the exam at the end of October.
