Any 2023 Applied Mathematics PhD Candidates out there? I'm not seeing many posts on here related to math programs/admissions. I just got my first rejection - Yale. Pretty bummed about it, I think I was a pretty strong candidate. BS in applied math, 3 publications (one co-first author), years of research experience, glowing letters of rec. I also applied to:

  • UC Berkeley
  • MIT
  • Princeton
  • Harvard
  • UMass Amherst
  • UC Santa Barbara
  • Columbia

My backup is an MS in Statistics that I have already been admitted to. Any other folks in this waiting-boat? I'd love to hear about where you've applied/any responses/how you're feeling.

Hi! Yes, I'm applying for PhD's in applied mathematics (theoretical physics).

I've applied to MIT, Harvard and Stanford in the US, and Cambridge, Oxford and Queen Mary in the UK. Will probably apply to more. Haven't heard anything (and I'm doubting myself more and more everyday...). I have one publication (first-author), several research experience and currently studying a master's in applied mathematics at a top uni.

Hey, I am also applying for PhD's in Applied Math with focus on optimization. I've applied to quite a few schools and among the schools you also applied to, I have UCB, MIT and Columbia(IEOR). I was admitted by Virginia Tech a few days ago, received campus visit invitation from UNC-CH, but other than these, I have not heard from other schools yet.

As for my background, I major in applied math at a top uni, 3.9 GPA, years of research experience, one paper under review(first author), at least two very strong recs,  and other related activities.

Awesome. When you say you'll apply to more, where are you thinking you'll apply to? I thought most of the applications closed on December 15th. I too am doubting myself more every day, ha. My focus within AM is on computational biology, and I think I have a lot of strong research to back it up. But now in this waiting period, I don't feel so sure.

Congrats. You sound like a perfect candidate. I'm sure you'll do fine.

I mean places in Europe (I'm European), they have later deadlines. And same, I've received one invite for an interview but haven't heard anything else.
