Hey there, I had my interview last week on the first day. It felt very relaxed and conversational, and it felt very much like they had read through my application and were asking questions about the specific experiences I had on there.

Generally, I would be prepared to talk about your experience with kids, how you’ve handled a good and bad situation with a learner, and what you want to learn from this program specifically.

Another area to prepare, less so than your class experience, is your academic history. I assume they want to make sure you’re ready to study at the graduate level as opposed to the b. Ed. And all this in 25 mins, with time to ask your questions!

From other Reddit posts I’ve seen interviews running up until early Feb. I would imagine they’re interviewing 2-3 times the # of acceptances. I’ve also read a grad cafe thread from last year mentioning an unofficial acceptance email, but idk if that’ll happen this year.

best of luck! When’s your interview? And let me know if you have questions.

i had mine on the 25th too and this is all solid advice! since the ma-cse is also a teacher education program but is different from the mt, i think it would be worth it to give some thought to why you applied to the ma-cse program.

as far as i know, they're having three days of interviews (jan 25th, feb 1st, and feb 4th). i'm not sure how many people they're seeing per day though. i've heard they usually interview double the people they accept. i had mine at 3:30 pm and was told that was the last time slot for that day. there were five other interviewees in the room with me. assuming they started at around 12:00, maybe they're interviewing about 48 people a day?

i also wanted to ask if anyone completed a post-interview sheet after their interview.

Yes I filled it out, that’s the form where you say how you found out about the program and such, right?

And good to know about 3:30 being the final interview time, mine started at 1pm and it was the first round of the day!

yes! i wanted to ask about the post-interview sheet because i feel like i’ve scoured the entirety of the internet for the ma-cse application process and never heard anything about it haha so it caught me off guard.

also wow if they started interviews at 1:00 pm then that’s not many at all to get through in one day. helpful to know that we aren’t competing against a billion people haha.

Hey! Did anyone else receive an invite to the welcome reception that's happening in-person?

Not yet... when did you hear?

I heard back today that I've been recommended for admission and I should get the offer soon! They also invited me to the welcome reception, but I can't go since I don't live in Toronto and would need to miss an entire day of classes. I'm really happy though, definitely going to accept. :)

does anyone who got a recommendation email know how many were sent out or if acceptances are going to be sent in batches? just wondering whether all the acceptances were sent today or if there’s still hope left ? also when is the reception?

It was a personal email, I received mine about 1:15pm. I interviewed 2 weeks ago. The reception is next Wednesday so there’s still time!

Rooting for you!! ?

I'm not sure if they were all sent out, I got mine around 1:30pm. There's still a good chance you'll get an offer even if they were though. I saw that in 2018-19 there were 89 offers and only 66 people accepted, so there will be people who don't accept and then more offers later. Good luck! :)

very fair! i need to keep reminding myself that today’s only the first day of admissions decisions haha. it’s just that the reception is so soon (next week…?) which makes me think all of the acceptances are sent out! seems strange to host a welcome reception if a good portion of people are still being admitted and people haven’t confirmed whether they’ll even accept the offer.

Congratulations to all those accepted ?..

Im sure the others will also get in soon:) just have to wait a bit..

Are you going to accept the offer? Also did you apply to any other programs?

Someone I know was waitlisted for the SCCP program at OISE, which is much more competitive (they accept 7ish students vs the 60 in CSE). But not even a week later she was accepted. She never made it to the grad reception held a week after the unoffical acceptances got out, but neither did some of her classmates because they weren’t in Toronto.

I imagine that while there’s a lot of competition for OISE programs, there are also many teachers college programs across Ontario. Even within OISE, there’s the much more well-known MT program. So I figure this event is as much a way to entice people to officially accept as much as it is a meet-and-greet.

All this to say, a lot can happen until September! :)

ahh the wait really is excruciating but hoping those of us that haven’t heard back yet will get good news soon! on that note, has anyone applied for the oise master of teaching? or any other programs? how are we feeling about tuition costs and the lack of funding?

for those of you attending the welcome reception, have fun and let us know how it goes!

for real! waiting really builds up the anxiety, especially since unofficial acceptances already went out ? however, i'm also holding out for good news for those of us that haven't heard back yet! whether from OISE or any other programs that you're hoping to hear back from! ?

Hey, does anyone know if there's a Facebook page or group chat for new students in the MA-CSE program this year? I've seen groups from previous years and it would be nice to connect with some of you before school starts. :)
