Should I have proclaimed my overwhelming enthusiasm for the school? I fear I remained too calm in my phone conversation with a particular person from a particular institution...I think I may have come across as being concerned mainly about the funding; is this so bad though? I think any professor knows how much funding influences decisions? All this is made worse by the fact that I later went on the school's website and realized just how perfect the program indeed is for me! Something I previously did not really grasp. I wish I had said something about this on the phone.

The prof said he feels I would very likely get an offer for funding in the next couple of weeks, and in response to another e-mail, he said that he does think it will come through for sure. Do I need to do anything else at this point -- would e-mailing or calling him again seem too direct? Or suspicous at this point? or just wait and hope he didn't pick up on my calmness = aloofness, which I didn't intend at all! I was just so shocked! The enthusiam or excitement didn't overtake me until a few hours later when I realized what it all really meant.

First, breathe. Then, sit. Realize you got in and you've got a professor telling you your funding should go through. Finally, celebrate!

I second that. A professor wouldn't say that you are sure to get funding if they didn't really think so. Not only would that not be nice to you, but that would make them look bad. You can be happy now, but I understand what it feels like when things are still uncertain.

I am still waiting for first-year funding from UNC, and am first on the waitlist for Indiana. The prof at UNC said to me that she really believes that they will be able to offer me funding the first-year, but I'm still nervous. I hate waiting! I'm not even sure whether Indiana is going to offer me funding, and I can't go if I don't get funding!

Of course we have to care about finances. As a professor recently said to me, it would be crazy to pay your way through any part of graduate school in English with the help of loans, because you couldn't possibly pay back any loans for at least 6 years. Who could possibly afford it except the exceptionally wealthy. And why would they want to?

All my needless worrying! It's just so late & I just want to decide where I'll definitely be going. I hope your funding at UNC works out -- is that your topic choice? at least you are first on the waiting list for Indiana. The professor at my choice school didn't tell me what my actual place is on the list, only that it is "very high." I was accepted to two other places so far, but they're also still working out the funding; one of those places is an MA program that I don't think funds their masters students anyway. You're right about the finances; it will influence my decision & I think any professor should know that.

Still waiting on the first-year funding from UNC, and for Indiana.... :(

waiting is just not my forte.

I am now choosing between UNC and UC-Davis (and if all goes well, Indiana), and I have come to the point where I really just need to decide. Do they understand how much we check our email? They can't, otherwise they would not keep us waiting so long. I don't believe it. :?

No news yet....they said I should know by the first week of April, but that is late! I have to plan school visitations, etc, and I am sure I will be making a decision on April 14th, no earlier, lol.
