NYU PHD in Media and FUNDING

Hi, so I've seen some posts on the internet from people who went to NYU and are complaining that the funding was horrible and the place was very unwelcoming- suddenly I feel so unsure about applying- anyone out here have any experience with the Univ?

I don't have personal experience with NYU, however, I will add that I've often heard about NYU's notorious stinginess regarding financial aid. I'm in cinema studies, so that's pretty close to what you might be going for.
