CS Applicant 2011 Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 (edited) Hey guys, I would like to know, based on your experience, what my chances are of getting into Stanford's PhD program. The reason I only plan on applying to Stanford is because I've already got a guaranteed spot at a top 20 CS university, and Stanford is the only university that I would like to attend besides that. My Stats: Undergraduate Senior at a top 10 U.S. CS School. Major GPA: 4.0/4.0 Overall GPA: 3.98/4.0 GRE: Q: 790 V: 490 A: 5 Research Experience: I've done research for the same professor for 2 years (got a great letter from him). I did research at MIT during the summer (also got a great letter form this advisor). I've been doing research with another professor for about 2 months now, and things are going well (not sure if I can get a good letter yet, but I have a backup letter that is also very good). To this date I got no publications, but I have attended a few poster sessions at several national conferences. So what do you think? Do I have a decent chance of getting in? Thanks. newms Posted October 15, 2010 Posted October 15, 2010 I think you have a fair chance of getting in to Stanford. As you know, they'll be most interested in your research experience on your application. A publication would have been great, but you seem to have some pretty good research experience. A really good SoP and some good recommendation letters will help your app a lot.
