Hi everyone!

A friend of mine is applying to the USA with a British degree. She told me she got all the British grades translated into the US grade point of average by the World Education Services (WES).

After quite some time spent on the websites of the US schools, I don't actually remember ever seeing this name. It is definitely not a requirement for admissions ... but is having your grades converted by WES advisable? What is the reputation of that company?

Do you know anything about WES?

I'm applying to the States with a British degree and I really don't think the British system is at all compatible with the American GPA system. Most universties (all but one of my 6) will not ask you to convert and I wouldn't advise trying to do it either using the WES or any other system because you'd just be doing yourself a disservice.

Right, thanks.

This is exactly what I thought. Perfect.

I don't like this company. I was asked to 'convert' my British grades for Columbia University and they were very unhelpful on the phone, extortionately priced and I didn't agree with the conversion they gave.

Put me off applying to that University full stop! if 90% of admissions commitees can understand a relatively simple grading scheme why can't the remaining 10%!?

A friend of mine who got her grades translated actually did this for Columbia.

I think if it's not too late for you to apply, you can still give it a go. By no means is the WES conversion a requirement. Another friend of mine got into a Ph.D. at Columbia last year without having British grades converted.
