mungdaddy Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Anyone out there heard from Asian Studies MA programs???
Guest abcd Posted March 12, 2006 Posted March 12, 2006 Hi! I applied to South Asian languages and civilisation at Chicago. No word yet.... expecting a NO, in any case... Which Programs did you apply for????
mungdaddy Posted March 12, 2006 Author Posted March 12, 2006 I applied to East Asian studies programs. The longer I wait, the less hopeful I become. The schools I applied to are Stanford (yeah, right!), Ohio State (possible), Michigan (unlikely), Duke (I am from the South) and Penn (they seem unorganized). So, here I am waiting for responses which will essentially dictate my plans for the next school year (I am a teacher who might or might not renew a contract). Good luck to you. Did you apply to any of those programs?
Guest schoolisfun Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Penn PhD EALC--accepted (the profs have been great, but otherwise seem disorganized) Harvard MA RSEA--accepted with tuition / fees funding Any inside dope on these program?
Guest bahisaay Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 schoolisfun, I got into the Harvard MA RSEA as well, with tuition/fees funding just like yourself. How cool ~ What's your concentration? Mine is pre-modern Korean history, particularly the late Choson era. Definitely, I will choosing Harvard. The only other program I got into was UCLA's ALC Ph.d., but they did not offer any funding. Pretty excited - the Korean history professors at harvard match my interests pretty well, and their East Asian collection is second to none in the US (one of the few that actually has its own Korea secton!) Perhaps I will see you there this fall - cheers.
aricyo Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Hey guys, I will start to apply for EAS MA programs (2008) this year. Schools I'm interested in are Harvard, Duke, Stanford, and U of Washington... Questions for Schoolisfun and Bahisaay...I heard roughly about 150 people applied to Harvard for RSEA AM. So which evaluating criterion did you find most important? (State of Purpose, Writing Sample, GRE, GPA, Recommendation letters..) Thanks a lot!
aricyo Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Ahh, I guess guys like mungdaddy, Schoolisfun, bahisaay will never come back to this thread. So let's start our own Are you applying for East Asian Studies (EAS)? If so, which schools are you interested in? And what is your major at this moment? Me: political science major, interested in Harvard, Stanford, Berkeley, UW... Hope to see your replies soon! Cheers, arc.
ephraim Posted February 16, 2008 Posted February 16, 2008 Has Anyone started hearing for this programs for 2008-09? I just heard from RSEA at Harvard and I was accepted but with no aid or funding -- I'm pretty bummed about that since its my first choice but I doubt I can afford to pay my way, unless I maybe get the Boren fellowship I applied for. Still waiting on Stanford, Yale, Columbia for MA East Asian studies. Anyone else applying or heard from anywhere?
