I am graduating this spring in History and want to apply to PhD programs. My GPA is 3.4 and I have finished an honors thesis for which I just got an honorable mention. My thesis advisor has accepted to write me a letter, and I am in the process of selecting my 2 other recommenders (2 have said yes and I am waiting on another one's response). My question is this: should I take the GRE this summer even though some of the programs are not requiring it? I know that some people feel it's useless, but I am considering taking the summer to study for it if it's worth it. Any take on this?
