CaseysTravels Posted November 16, 2010 Posted November 16, 2010 Hi, I am currently researching potential schools and was hoping for some suggestions. I want to study creative nonfiction writing with a blend of some cultural studies/anthropology. My aim is to become a writing professor. I am currently enrolled in a Cross-cultural Communication MA at the University of Sydney. I have decided to apply to the English programs at: University of New Hampshire Brown Quite a jump, I know. Brown is my reach school, I would like 1 more at that level, and maybe 2 or 3 at the UNH level and between. A brief idea: I graduated in 2004 with a BA in English and a GPA of 3.1. Travelled quite a lot since then and taught English in Germany for a year. Have done quite well at Sydney (prob a 3.6 or so). Any comments are welcome! Thanks.

I'm not sure about (traditional) English Phd programs that would be a good fit, but wanted to ask if you've considered a PhD in creative writing...my understanding is you take both lit and CW classes and some interdisciplinary work. That sounds like a better kind of program than Brown (not as familiar with UNH). At Brown, it would be the MFA program that would enable you to do creative nonfiction, not their PhD program. Just a thought! If you're more interested in Rhet/comp, off the top of my head some good schools are Purdue, Ohio State, U Louisville, Ball State, UMass, several schools in Arizona, and U Wisconsin. I would look especially closely at Purdue. Hope this helps! iExcelAtMicrosoftPuns 1
