moraurora Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 Hello, I just wanted to share something with you thinking that you might be interested. Below is a world map from Suny Binghampton Anthropology Department's website: http://anthro.binghamton.edu/UpdatedMap_edited-1.jpg'>http://anthro.binghamton.edu/UpdatedMap_edited-1.jpg http://anthro.binghamton.edu/ When you go the website, this is the first thing you see. They wanted to put a map to point out the working areas of the faculty. However, the map is seriously flawed. I mean, the whole Balkan Peninsula is erased and Italy is kind of next to Russia. This means that more than 10 countries are absent. Such as Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Crotia, Cyprus, Macedonia... Of course, you might guess that, none of the faculty works there. It is alright, this is not the point. However, the fact that you dont work there does not give you the right to erase some part of the world from the map. What is more, no one works in Japan or New Zealand, yet these places are on the map, and they are well described... We contacted the department and the response we got was "this is not have to be a detailed map". It is quite an interesting answer. Who gets to decide what is a detail or not and who gets to claim that "details" are erasable? One can write a paper on that subject Anyway, if you find this map problematic as we do, I encourage you to email the department.
