zlmd Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 Hello all, Just curious if anyone has applied or will be applying to any arts administration or museum studies programs for the fall. the only topic I found was really old. It would be great to discuss applications, programs and acceptance/rejections with some people!
marginalia Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 I'm interested in graduate minor programs but have yet to apply- hoping to see if I get in to any of my PhD programs to apply within the schools themselves, if they offer courses. I would love to hear about the process! DivaMoon Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I am applying for arts administration programs, but my specialization is theatre management. Hence only one program I applied for is an Arts Administration program (University of New Orleans); the other two are Theatre Management and Performing Arts Management (Cal State Long Beach and Brooklyn College, respectively.) Where are you applying?

Where are you applying? The New Orleans program looks really cool, I was going to apply buy decided on some other places. I applied to Arts Administration programs at the University of Oregon, Eastern Michigan University and NYU. I also applied to a Museum Studies program at Syracuse University. Hopefully i'll hear some news soon.
wordswords Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I've applied to three Arts Admin Schools: -MFA at Southern Utah -MFA at DePaul -MA at NYU Now in the wait/interview/wait stage. I'll be glad to know what's coming next! What are your thoughts on the state of arts admin in general? Are we crazy for wanting to go into it in this kind of arts climate?
alyss Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I've applied to 8 Museum Studies/Art Business programs for Fall 2011: NYU, UWashington, SFSU, Bard, Christie's, Sotheby's, TTU and CCNY

zlmd Posted February 13, 2011 Author Posted February 13, 2011 got my acceptance letter from Eastern Michigan University the other day. Still waiting on NYU, Oregon and Syracuse. Has anyone heard anything?
srmer Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I've applied to Columbia University's Teachers College, USC, and Claremont Graduate. The admission deadlines were all over the place with USC being the earliest on Feb 1, but I submitted all three at the same time. I have an interview at Teacher's College on the 1st of March and can't decide if I should be extremely anxious, nervous and proud, or if it's something they do for all applicants to the program. Good luck to my fellow comrades.
peaceb4war Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I just received an offer from Brown's "Public Humanities" program, but I'm not sure I'm going to take it because I don't want to pay for it (I was hoping for a full fellowship... rejected for that). Can anyone tell me if they think the program's worth it?
zlmd Posted February 24, 2011 Author Posted February 24, 2011 Just got an email for an interview from NYU. Has anyone else heard back from them?

Good luck to my fellow comrades. I just an interview with Columbia on 22.02.11! it was a phone interview, lasted only about 16minutes! (that is worrying) it was okay, The prof. just expected me to ask the questions, I was taken abock about that so. just prepare some questions. Of course I know each interview is different. the there was a part on why me other than the other candidates. have I been to NY (Am from Zambia and never been to NY) In terms of how many people are interviewed, well for MA Arts Administration there are a couple of other students appliying, but they do not call everyone. All the best for 1st march!
srmer Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 Thanks for the advice! who was the professor you spoke with? Was it Prof. Joan Jeffries? The person who set my interview told me it would only last about 30 minutes, so I wouldn't be too worried that yours was short. Best of luck to you, as well! alyss Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Anyone here also apply to SFSU's Museum Studies program? I just got an email for an interview.
wordswords Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Have you heard anything from any these schools yet? Got rejection email from DePaul. No big surprise. No word from any of the others. Guessing if NYU is already interviewing and I haven't heard anything that's not a good sign.
zlmd Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 Got acceptance letters from Syracuse University and NYU in the mail today. Still no word from Oregon. Anybody hear anything from NYU? Best of luck!
alyss Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Got acceptance letters from Syracuse University and NYU in the mail today. Still no word from Oregon. Anybody hear anything from NYU? Best of luck! NYU called me for an interview but then when the day came they never called me. And when I called them they said we'd reschedule. I'm guessing its a bad sign if they can't even reschedule me with decisions coming out.
acscejester Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I am interested in persuing a museum studies degree and have a ton of questions. First, which programs are the best for job placement? Does one have to have a history degree in order to apply? I myself, have psychology degree. What type of score is competitive on the GRE? Are there any internships someone like me could work at in order to get some experience? Im sorry for all the questions; Im just trying to figure out what I want to do the rest of my life. Thanks guys

alyss Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Well for my interview they had me call them. Who were you supposed to talk to? I have no idea, they said a faculty member would call me. And when I called to reschedule they didn't give me a name just said someone from the department. When I did this for SFSU they told me who would be interviewing me and what time he'd call so I'm not to sure whats up with NYU.
