future00 Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 (edited) Hi everybody, I'm a new member here . I'm thinking about studying a Master's in International Relations by Independent Study at De Montfort University in Leicester, UK. I'm also thinking about American studies which include US politics, elections and American domestic history and I can choose between these two topics. I've never ever taken such a course where I have to look for materials and work alone. There's a mentor that helps you and that you can contact but at the end of the day you have to choose your topic of interest, how to develop it, what kind of assessment you prefer, etc I'm used to studying by distance learning but not by Independent Study. It seems very interesting but daunting at the same time, is there anybody who has studied a Master's or even this one by Independent Study who can tell me his/her experience? Please help me, thanks so much in advance! P.S. I'm about to begin my undergraduate studies in Modern Languages (English, French, Spanish), which MA do you think is more appropriate? International Relations or American Studies? I've looked for Modern Languages and Cultures MA but there's no MA available by distance learning. Edited December 8, 2010 by future00
harpyemma Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Have you tried the OU? Also, from what you've written, it seems like you're planning on doing the MA whilst you do your UG degree. If so, i don't think that's very wise.
