Hi,

I am currently looking for Double Degree programs (Master) in International Relations and Economics.

I have an economics undergraduate background, so I don't want to abandon the rigorosity of quantitative methods, but I am mainly interested in international topics (trade, development, currencies, effects of globalizations, political economy of international institutions and states, etc.) and I think a double degree is probably the way to go...

So far I have the following to programs in mind:

* Syracuse: Joint Degree IR / Econ

* Georgetown: Double Degree Foreign Service / Econ

* (what else is out there? ;)

I would be glad for every addition!

Thank you,

David

Not really a dual degree but GWU Elliot has a masters in International Trade an Investment Policy with 3 focus areas to choose from (International Economic Policy Analysis, International Business, or Development Economics).

More information can be found here: http://elliott.gwu.edu/academics/grad/itip/index.cfm

They also offer an MA in International Affairs with a focus on Economic affairs (http://elliott.gwu.edu/academics/grad/ia/econ.cfm)

I have heard good things about the Elliot school, but I do not think it ranks nearly as high for IR as Syracuse or Georgetown.

Hope this helps

You may also want to consider IR/Public Policy programs with a strong IPE or foreign economic policy focus. I imagine there are also econ programs with concentrations in international trade and currency. If you are looking to use the masters to develop your knowledge and advance your career, I would place a pretty strong emphasis on the reputation of the school/program, even if it deviates slightly from your ideal focus. In my experience, I found that name recognition of my master's institution was critical to landing a number of interviews.

I suggest you look up the website of LSE (London School of Economics and Political Science). Surely, they have some joint degrees in their two premier subjects.

Thank you all!

The Elliot IR programm looks good, although I am afraid it's a bit too non-technical. But I'll definitely consider it! Do you know how generous they are in funding (for international students)? What is worse: I will not be able to do my GRE before the first week of January, so I won't make the deadline on the 15th...

Btw:

I only listed the US programs in my first post. Should anyone have the same question one day and be interested in European programs, here is a list:

* Geneva Graduate Institute

* Uni Göttingen

* SAIS Bologna

* Uni Hamburg

* Uni Freiburg

If I do not get accepted in a US-American Program, I will probably go back to Europe and do one of the above masters.
