So I'm finishing up everything that's due tomorrow for the UCLA application. I have outlined the things I plan to say in my statement of purpose, but how long should it be? I called the school and a woman told me that there wasn't an expected word count, but to "be reasonable." I'm not entirely sure how to interpret this. I was thinking roughly 300 words since there is a separate artist statement required.

SOP _and_ Artist Statement??? Where exactly are we supposed to upload both?

Does one go with the portfolio we mail in? what?

I only wrote the one statement, kind of a combination of a sttement of purpose and an artist statement. S$%&!@

No sleep for the wicked -- more editing. Just what I needed....

(at least UCLA is not my first pick - even if I bungle this one there is still a shiny horizon of potential rejections waiting for me...)

statement of purpose is submitted with the online application

artist statement is submitted with the rest of the supplemental materials in january....there is a supplement form you download, and paste in your artist statement, i believe you mail in hard copies.

thanks - these things freak me out.

got it now.

good luck, and yes, 300-500 words seems to be right.

Ya, mine was 500-600...then there was a diversity thing for the fellowship...I think i did another 500 for that...
