yetanotherapplicant Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Sorry to hear about the rejection, Sichselbstoffenbaren.Good luck with your other schools! No word yet here.... Last time I applied, this later notification meant that I was getting an offer from the MAPSS program (which I turned down, in favor of a PhD program elsewhere). Given that I'll already have an MA by the fall, I can't see why they'd be doing that again, but who knows.
parapraxis Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I got my rejection today. Second time (last year too). What a mysterious department, I wonder what they really want....
Phenomenologist Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Bummer about rejection, but don't be too down about it -- it's a total crapshoot. The Committee is even trickier, because the faculty shifts, which makes it even harder to match research interests with faculty and such. Phenomenologist 1

Yeah, sorry for the rejection. I'm pretty positive I'll be getting the same in the next few days. In any event, though, you've got some nice offers on the table. I like Villanova's department, and you could work with Gasche at Buffalo, which is a pretty coveted position, as I understand. Walter Brogan at Villanova is supposed to be a hell of a nice guy, too. parapraxis Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 thanks-- yeah Chicago was always sort of a pipe dream. I also applied to Divinity school there for a MA in Divinity (last year was accepted to the AMRS program but turned it down). If I had unlimited money, I would go there for an unfunded MA in Divinity, then off to a philosophy program. But yeah, Villanova certainly helps. I took declined Buffalo just yesterday-- mostly because I was waiting on them for a funding package, which might not have ever happened (whereas Villanova came through full funding); also, I was not thrilled about Buffalo as a city. But their department looks great. Villanova is also a great fit-- Brogam, Rockhill, Carvalho, Thiem all do great work. Yeah, sorry for the rejection. I would've had to start over from scratch with coursework anyway.
