owlish Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Hi! I am currently pursuing a Masters in Life Sciences from a central government Research Institute in India . As of now I have a GPA of 2.9 out of 4 ( as per scholaro reports) I have a research experience of 1.5 years across Neurodegenerative, chronobio, Biophysics Labs . I want to pursue a PHD in Neuroscience from USA mainly...Any hopes??
QuoNeuro Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Unfortunately, it seems pretty unlikely with your current stats :(( PhD programs within the USA typically want a minimum GPA of 3.0 (the average is closer to 3.5, and R1 Universities demands even higher). Also, being an international student can dramatically decreases your chances of being accepted, even if you have a 4.0 GPA. Is the 1.5 years of research calculate into FTE? Or did you work part-time? Research-focused US Universities typically want a minimum of 6 months FTE (but again, the average is much much higher). If I was you, I would first try to join a post-bacc within the USA, ideally at the university I wished to join for my PhD. Building connection with students and faculty is the best way to get your foot in the door, plus it increases your research experience! Good luck and keep us updated!
