Hi,

The chair of the graduate committee at CMU I/O program called me after the graduate admission committee met to discuss the applications. She just basically asked me some general questions because my UG experience was more cognitive psychology oriented. Is this generally a good thing? I'm assuming she wouldn't call someone to confirm their interest if that person isn't being seriously considered? or is this a standard thing for the committee do, and they probably call half of the applicants anyways. I'm sorry to sound paranoid but I'm sure its standard for us applicants around this time anyways.

Cheers

Yep it's definitely good that she called. It means they are definitely interested in you. It doesn't guarantee admission, but your chances seem to be better than most at this time.

It is a sign that you are among a (probably relatively small) pool of applicants still being considered. However, from the sounds of it, I don't think this necessarily means you should be too excited yet. Yes, it is a sign that you are still in the running after a round (rounds?) of cuts, but it does not necessarily mean you are (or are going to make it to) the final shortlist.

Thanks,

she did say the final decision will be made this week or early next week so crossing my fingers its the "later round" :D
