Hey everyone! Just wanted to start the 2025 Canadian SLP forum for application/re-application prep and discussions! I know its really far in advance but we have a platform to share any tips, questions resources, news, or advice for topics such as subGPA, volunteering, statement of intent, reference letters, etc.

Wishing everyone the best of luck on their applications! :)

Hello! I will be applying for the first time this year. Can anyone who has applied before and got in/didn’t share their stats with me ? PM me or let me know if I can PM you:)))

Hi everyone! I will be a first-time applicant this fall and had a question regarding subGPA. Does anyone know if ORPAS rounds subGPA? If so, is it rounded to 2 or 3 decimal places (ex. if a subGPA is 3.867 would they round it to 3.87 or would it stay as 3.867)? Thank you in advance!

I think it’s rounded up? Mine last year was only 2 decimal places which I believe was rounded.

Hi!! I am an incoming 1st year student at UofT. I’m excited for everyone who is going through the application process, it is a fun, yet intense time.

As a 1st time applicant, I received offers from Mac, Western, UofT and McGill, and was rejected from UofA. I am more than happy to answer any questions about the application process. My PMs are always open :) Best of luck to everyone!

Hi everyone! I am also applying for 2025 cohort groups of master of SLP programs in Canada. I prefer to apply U of A,  U of Dalhousie, U of western, U of McGill, and U of McMaster. Hopefully everyone in this group can get their dream offer with SLP.

I think you have a very good GPA. However, I do not get the idea of how the ORPAS scale calculates my subGPA. Do you know how they calculate our past two years' grades (60 credits) right? My university does not use GPA scale because my school uses percentages rather than GPA.

Hi guys! I'm looking to apply to uOttawa for Speech Language Pathology and OT. A requirement to apply is to be bilingual in French/English. To apply you need to take the OLBI School of Rehabilitation Sciences French/English language admissions test. I haven't been able to find a lot of information online about it.

I was wondering if anyone can speak to its difficulty? If it's similar to the C1 DALF French test? What kinds of questions are on it? Has anyone has found any practice tests / prep for this test specifically? Any general tips / advice for taking this test? Feel free to privately message me if you don't feel comfortable replying on this thread!

This is the link to the test I'm referring to if anyone is interested:

Thank you guys so much. Any information is helpful!

I also think this is a great GPA! I believe they take the 20 most recent classes if I'm not wrong... typically, if you are starting your 4th year in sept 2024, they will take your first semester of 4th year, all of your 3rd year, and the last semester of your second year (considering you took 5 classes in each semester, and no summer classes). This is how i remember them doing it last years applications, but i could be totally wrong hahaha. If you had taken summer school (like I did), then they would have to average your second year grades and weigh it as a 2.00 rather than a 1.00. They have to average it because getting to the 20 courses does not take up the whole semester of courses because of those summer courses, if this makes any sense. They outline it much better on the actual ORPAS website or on last year's forum. I hope this helps!

Western doesn’t look at volunteer hours but I guess it’d be good on the CV/Resume as they look at that

How early should we be asking profs for letter of recommendations?

As early as you’d like! You never know what other letters of recommendation your profs might be asked to do and the holidays can be a busy time with exams/marking etc. Also, asking early enough allows them time to gather any information they might want to see from you (a bit about why you are applying, transcripts, what you’d like them to capitalize on in their reference etc)

P.S. Most schools reach out to the references directly, either after you send the request through ORPAS or after you submit your application!

Hi everyone. Applying for the first time this year! Any UBC students who applied to the program at Western, what courses did you do to satisfy requirements #5 (Life/Biomedical/General Sciences) and #6 (Social Science/Psychology/Linguistics)? No specific courses listed for those requirements and they have lots of acceptable options, not even sure which course to ask about. Thank you!

Anybody know how strict the grade requirements for the pre-reqs are? Specifically at UofT? I have an A in EVERY PRE-REQ except for Human Physiology :( ... My subGPA is kinda decent, I don't remember getting below an 85 in 3rd/4th year. I can easily get hours done in a clinic and have always had a personal interest in this field due to my brother who used to be non-verbal. I REALLY wanna go to UofT so badly ugh... if they aren't lenient at all, what could I possibly do to change this?

Hey guys! I am a new student at Western University starting my first year in SLP. When I was applying to schools I always came across American accounts on Instagram that showed me any type of insight into the program/ what we would be learning/ a day in the life. So I started my own account in hopes of helping anyone who wants to apply so that they can get an idea of what it can be like. Feel free to also reach out to me on DM’s for any questions.

Hi! I have previously emailed UofT SLP admissions about this and this is what they said:

On your website it is mentioned that for each prerequisite to have a final grade of B+ to be considered; would this be 77-79 based on another grading scale found from the UofT website? This is correct.

Hi everyone!

I was just wondering how the letters of recommendation work for Ontario grad schools. Do we have to provide the reference name/email on orpas and they reach out to them? Or do I have to actually ask the prof to write me a recommendation letter then upload the actual letter on Orpas. Its my first time applying so sorry for the dumb question lol. Also any tips on how to approach profs for reference letters?

Hi everyone! So excited for all of you to apply ❤️ Is anyone applying to Dalhousie willing to send me their resume template? Simply do not know where to begin!!

There’s a lot of info on this if you look up: ORPAS Referee Requirements :) if they have the appropriate type of email address, you include that information in the Reference section of ORPAS, and then you send a request. Once this is sent, the rest is processed on ORPAS’s side!

I reached out to two of my references by email and one in person. It’s definitely up to you and what you think would work best!
