slpinmontreal Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Hi! Quick question for anyone applying to Dal. Does anyone know if the Jan 15th deadline includes our e-references being sent? I was under the impression that just our application was due the 15th, and since it takes 5 business days to send out the e-ref link, the references would only be due shortly after. Now I'm not so sure, and I'm feeling quite nervous because we're getting close to the deadline, and I don't want to rush my references... I've sent in my application and paid the fee, just waiting on my references getting their e-ref link.

I spoke to someone via email and it is, in fact, due the 15th! Have you paid for your application fee? I'm hearing from others that they received their e-ref link relatively quickly after paying (1-3 business days).

I did pay for it already so hopefully our references get the link soon!
Lingbrain Posted January 10 Posted January 10 Hi everyone, Has anyone taken casper this cycle? I would love to hear some insights on it and what type of prep they did (if any)?
BubbleSLP Posted January 11 Posted January 11 12 hours ago, Lingbrain said: Hi everyone, Has anyone taken casper this cycle? I would love to hear some insights on it and what type of prep they did (if any)? Hiya! I would definitely recommend taking the time to look at YouTube videos (I found "Shemmassian"'s video particularly helpful) about the CASPer test, and brushing up on how to structure your responses in a way that's most effective. For example, (1) making sure to voice that you understand both sides to a perspective, (2) giving the main issue, (3) explaining how you would act, and (4) giving good justifications. Showing empathy in your answers is also super important. I also would recommend anyone taking the test to really take the practice exam seriously as if you're taking the real test. That way, you have a good feel for the time constraint for each answer. They allow you to have a blank piece of paper during the test; use the paper!!! While listening to the video you can jot notes down, and also during the reflection part so you can quickly map out your answer structure. If you have any other questions, feel free to let me know!
nm2100 Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Hi there, I hope you all are doing well! I am currently working as a teacher for 2 years. I am looking to return to school for SLP in Ontario, specifically at McMaster, UofT, Western and Ottawa. I plan on taking some courses to boost my sub-GPA for the upcoming admission cycle this summer. I was wondering what my prospects would like if I apply with the following stats: Stats: - 100 hours of SLP clinical experience - sub-GPA: 83.05% OR 3.59 on the ORPAS scale (with current GPA with no GPA boosting courses) - 2 years of teaching experience - Pre-req course GPA: 89% or 3.92 I hope to hear from you soon Thank you so much for all your help!
FutureSLP_hopefully Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Hi! Does anyone know when reference letters are due for Dalhousie? Do referees have different deadlines than us?

slpgal890 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Anyone thats applying for Dalhousie, did your references all get their elinks at the same time? One of my references emailed saying they got it but the other said they haven't received anything (checked their junk/spam as well)
SLPCan123 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hi! Is anyone else struggling to fit their statement of intent into Dalhousie's additional information form? I can only fit in about half my statement before it gets cut off. Is it alright if I add a textbox over the form and input it there?

I saw an e-reference tech support email on Dal's website that you could reach out to if you're nervous
ciara92 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Hi all. Is anyone else waiting for their transcript to be received by ORPAS for McMaster? I sent mine Jan 8th last week through the print via mail option and my transcript is coming from UBC. I know we have until the 30th, but I'm worried it's affected by the Canada Post being backlogged from the strike.
SLPCan123 Posted January 13 Posted January 13 I am as well! Mine was sent on the 7th through regular mail and it still hasn't been received by ORPAS. If it doesn't arrive in the next few days, I think I might reach out to McMaster and see if there is any alternative (such as an emailed copy)
slpgal890 Posted January 14 Posted January 14 Is anyone still waiting for Dalhousies eref link to be sent out??

For me I just really cut back on what I wanted to say and did my best to fit all I needed to say, since it does say that we can't add extra pages for the statement and it has to be in the provided box. I did notice though that depending on what program you open the pdf through, some show my full text and others cut it off. Hopefully Dal realizes this issue and uses the right program to view our full statements.

Its the 8th day for me and its still not received 😕 I'm hoping it does at the end of the day. I'm curious tho, when you sent yours through your university, did you send it to OUAC? As I remember I couldn't find ORPAS on the list. Making sure I didn't send it to the wrong address.

Hi! Your stats seem pretty good but they use a sub gpa rather than a full gpa meaning they will only consider the average of your most recent courses (10 full or 20 half credit). depending on the school, they do put more emphasis on grades like mcmaster, but i would say your resume looks pretty good! good luck with you applications for next year!

My university doesn't have a list of locations to send transcripts to, rather we enter the address ourselves. I was able to send it to ORPAS. Their address can be found on their website ("ORPAS application guide" page, scroll to "contact information" then expand the "ORPAS" tab)
