Hello all,

So I've been researching as much as I can about Art History M.A. programs but since the other day (yesterday) that someone on here mentioned the Courtauld Institute of Art I became very interested. Then to my dismay I discovered that their cutoff GPA is a 3.5. Does anyone know of other M.A. Art history programs in the UK that are respectable but also not super competitive and that I might have a chance getting into? I'll have a 3.0 cumulative and 3.5 major GPA when I graduate by the way. I kind of fell in love with the Courtauld, and was told not to consider any other program in Europe. Anyways I've looked at several other programs but am curious about your opinions and suggestions/advice. Thanks in advance.

The Courtauld is tip top for Art History, but Goldsmiths and Birkbeck are probably both worth looking into - especially if you want to stay in London... otherwise, I've heard good things about Glasgow, Cambridge and Sussex, in particular. I imagine, they'll all ask for a 3.5 though since that is usually taken as a vague 2:1 analogue... (Goldsmiths and Birkbeck are less likely to want high grades and will probably be more flexible with their requirements).

Anyone have anything to say one way or another about UCL's program (as someone interested in Modern and Contemporary art)?

I don't know much about their MA program but i did apply there for the PhD specifically because of T.J. Demos who is Modern/Contmeporary. He writes for artforum frequently and he writes on palestinian artists which is in my specialty. I found him really responsive when I wrote - so if that goes for all faculty that would be good? Not sure how helpful this is!

Thanks.

I got in to the MA program, and while I'm pretty sure its the best option, I want to make sure I'm not just telling myself what I want to hear/ whether this is worth the not-exactly-cheap investment of moving to London.

UCL is quite alright, but not quite as good as the Courtauld, I think.

But then. Does it matter much? I think everybody should have lived in London for some time anyhow... any excuse will be fine. ;)
