How's everyone doing?

Posted

Just noticed there are two SUNY Buffalo results posted from Jan 8th and a new UIUC notification posted as of yesterday so a little nervous about what this means for me. One is a reject for Buffalo and another is a waitlist and the UIUC is an acceptance. Can only keep my eyes peeled on my emails and hope 🤞

Saw an acceptance for UW Seattle Master's. As far as the website says, they don't offer a terminal MA, plus the grad coordinator said results for the PhD wouldn't be out before mid Feb. Is there a separate MA in English apart from the MA/PhD at UW Seattle?

Just saw a waitlist go up for one of my schools. No emails from anyone yet. Nervous this will be a complete shut out season even as I’ve heard from no one.

Hi everyone, hope you're all doing well! Has anyone heard of UMass Amherst doing interviews at all? Haven't seen anything with any results for them since ~2013, has me biting my nails LOL!

@chattycoffee I don't think UMass Amherst does interviews; at least, they didn't used to. I was accepted into the program in 2022. I ended up turning them down. It's a great program, though! Incredibly nice people! The stipend was just unliveable, especially with the teaching load. I just went back and looked-- I got the acceptance email on 1/21/22. If I remember correctly, they typically roll out their decisions earlier than most schools.

Anyone got any response from UC Santa Cruz Literature? Their grad coordinator had told me decisions would be out this week.

EOD Friday, January 24th and still nothing. It seems like very few programs have announce or decided.:. Wondering if programs are waiting and watching the current federal administration for changes. Maybe takes longer in presidential inauguration years?

Apparently two people have reported acceptances to Brown's English PhD program on the Results tab, yet my portal remains unchanged....

There have been posts for Buffalo, UCSC, and Illinois but only one each from early Jan and nothing else…

This is an interesting take. Do you think it’s about funding?

I’m curious if it’s about funding as some may use federal grant funding to fund research and if they are going to stretch dollars for current students they might not accept a lot of new students or are waiting to see how many they can afford to accept.

I wouldn’t be surprised of this with the massive cuts going on. And for those of us doing more “controversial” fields, we are probably even more on the chopping block.

@Hchak what was the message?

I was asking if I had missed a post about UCSC but I went and checked and it was USC. Haven't heard anything from UCSC yet.

@Hchak yeah, someone inquired and got an early rejection on the 15th. Curious how this week will unfold as I’ve gotten no admissions decisions and it’s the last week of January. Super nervous it’s a complete shut out as usually am earlier notification from a school is more likely an acceptance.

I'm so nervous y'all... Seeing that some people are getting their interviews from the universities I applied to is making me feel like I'm about to have a panic attack. I know that some schools send out invitations over a course of a few days and I do not need to get into all of them, just one— but the fear of not being accepted into any is excruciating. It's just nice to know that I'm not alone, and seeing your comments make it a tad easier. I wish all the best to everyone here!
