I will be applying for PhD programs in the fall of 2025. Right now, I am working on researching schools and faculty that I could work with. I’ve noticed some English programs really focus on British/ Medieval etc. which made me look into comp lit, though a lot of comp lit programs you have to take 2+ languages. At the start of the program, I should have a good amount of Turkish under my belt and almost reading proficiency of French, but not all schools have Turkish programs and I don’t want to get a PhD in Near Eastern, I just want to do Turkish as a subtopic in research.

I want to research contemporary transnational and ethnic speculative fiction, focusing on its role in decolonization, constructing alternative histories, and restoration of cultural narratives.

Right now, UChicago targeted 2026/2027 admissions that I think would work really well, but I’m struggling to find professors in other programs. Any recs on what route to go?

I almost went Comp Lit for some programs but didn’t for me. Your work sounds like it would fit better with Comp Lit than general Lit and often the English or Lit programs overlap with Comp Lit with professors who are affiliated with both.
