Lol you guys have me checking my site analytics now... and losing hope in hearing back from RISD 😞 I realized I made a small mistake in my portfolio and I hope it didn't cause them to pass on my application entirely.

I feel really good about applying to CCA however! I did some last-minute research while writing my statement and they have a faculty member I'd love to work with. As much as I'm interested in the idea of moving across the country and having a whole new experience for my MFA, it would be pretty nice to be able to stay where I'm at.

Fingers crossed for more invites next week!

What they said^ plus even though it's supposedly tuition free people ended up with mountains of debt.  I don't remember if anybody is applying there but I've heard MICA isn't great either

How small of a mistake? I feel like MFA committees are more forgiving about small mistakes than say, medical programs, especially if they are interested in your work. You could have a perfect application on paper but if they don't like the work, they don't like it. We are so close to knowing and we won't know until we know!

Hey everyone, I have a question about scholarships. During the interview, if they ask how I plan to pay for tuition, what should I say? Should I be completely honest and explain that my financial situation doesn’t allow me to study in the university’s city on my own? Should I mention that I need a scholarship; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to attend?

This is my second time reapplying to the school. It’s my dream school, and I know they offer one full scholarship each year. Last year, I was accepted but couldn’t attend due to financial difficulties.

Totally. I accidentally uploaded the same artwork twice 🤦‍♀️ but I still met the minimum number of pieces so it's not like I under-submitted. I emailed admissions immediately when I noticed and they just said "That is fine." lol so, hopefully it's not a huge deal.

Transmedia/new media...mainly installations. Just finished my UCSB interview. For that one, they said that they're going to review the selection of interviewed people, narrow down the selection and invite/fly out the next round to interview/chat in person and then do final selections-- the timeline was "the next few weeks".

Just got an interview request from VCU for the Kinetic Imaging MFA program as well!  I'm actually so surprised that I've been able to get three so far especially since this is my first year applying...still waiting on UWash, UMich, UCLA, UCI, and CMU

I would be honest. If they want you to attend and offer full funding as a program, they'll do everything in their power to get you that funding. It might be a close call between you and another applicant receiving funding, and them knowing you will only attend if funded will likely help them make that decision. I don't think it hurts to be frank with them. You'll either get funding or you won't, so it doesn't make sense to be cagey about it, I think.

I also applied for UW Mad! Haven’t heard anything yet either and getting so anxious

Me too, it looks like in past years they were one of the earlier schools to send out interview requests. I also wasn't as confidence in my essay for them compared to other my schools...

Good luck though!! fingers crossed that it's not to late for either of us

I second being honest! That may be the reason they give the one full scholarship to you!

If they offer one full scholarship each year then it might work in your favor to explain your financial situation in my opinion, its likely that theyre the ones deciding who gets the full scholarship!

Has anyone done any deep research into Hunter's painting program? Specifically, is it more conceptual/representative/commercial? I'm second-guessing everything now!

I have a friend that's in her first or second year at Hunter and her work is figurative/representational. Not quite traditional but close. I think they have a bit of everything though from what I've seen

Anyone apply to Cranbrook for Graphic Design? I applied and was accepted last year but ultimately had to turn down my spot due to financial reasons. Hoping to be accepted again and earn more funding:)

Has anyone applied to NYU's MFA program? I have a friend who's gone to its BFA program and said mixed things about the school. I decided to apply anyways because it's one of the few programs in NYC, a city where I really hope to settle in the next stage of my career.

Plus, for people who might find this update helpful, NYU just started to send emails to the semi-finalists for the interviews!

I agree with all that letting them know your situation is helpful - but I would also be surprised if that came up in an interview. I think more likely if they offer an acceptance you can use that time to leverage their interest in you to discuss financial aid.

Has anyone heard from Boston University especially for Sculpture? I am touring in a couple days and I'm hoping if I'm out of the running they'll let me know before I make the trek...
