I was just offered an interview for the University of Arizona's Photo/Video/Imaging department!

I really envy you people who have heard from some programs more or less than nothing:( especially for those whose application closes in January. Wisc is driving me mad.

From everything I've read on past threads, all of my programs send out interview requests between February and March. In theory, it is a pretty quick turnaround (especially compared to some open calls that make you wait 3 months before hearing back anything...), but the wait is excruciating.

Hi there! I also applied for UW Madison! Heard nothing from them yet. Let’s keep in touch for updates

Definitely! I haven't heard anything either and it's making me nervous since it had an early jan deadline but I'm telling myself I need to be patient wait till february lol!

Once again checking in about Amherst, does anyone else have experience maybe from previous years with interviewing and then having such a long wait to hear back? From any school.  I interviewed with them 12/13 and havent heard a peep which I assume is a rejection. How common is that type of a waiting period?

is that for an MFA? Or for a BFA? I ask because of your handle name.

MFA , username is from last year when I was planning on doing an MFA for fall 2024 , but was rejected :") had no idea how competitive the process was, only applied to rutgers last year.

It's brutal, right? I did not apply to Amherst but dang they had an early deadline! How many schools did you apply to? I looked through every page of the last few years using the find feature in my browser for my specific programs so that gave me a good idea of when I might hear back. Like I will try not to freak out about RISD until after the first week of Feb since historically they have sent invites out around then.

I applied to a bunch of schools last year and didn't hear from anyone till mid feb. Was still waiting on some replies at the end of march.

This year I applied to 15 which maybe was insane lol , but after a rejection last year and basically putting my life on hold for a year to re apply I figured I would apply to as many as I could. Really hoping for a program with funding but I need to get in this year mentally so hopefully something clicks regardless of funding.

Where did you apply and what discipline?

It’s so stressful to apply to MFA programs because my friends in other disciplines have already heard back from their schools! I just applied to SVA’s Visual Narrative program this year— anyone have information about that program/process?

I also heard back from UCSB and have an interview scheduled with two of the professors on the MFA faculty next week! I applied with a transmedia/new media portfolio.

Other schools I've applied to not in order :

Northwestern (rejected, but expected since they don't have faculty that do a lot of new media stuff)

Carnegie Mellon

U Michigan

U Washington

UCSD

UCI

UCLA

Parsons

VCU

Besides UCSB and Northwestern, haven't heard anything back yet...

Congrats on the interview, curious what you mean by you applied with that type of portfolio, I was under the impression UCSB was interdisciplinary? Do you just mean your work submitted bends towards trandmedia/new media?

Yeah, I have a background in traditional media and I have some of that on my site, but all the works I submitted were made in the past two years and were transmedia pieces-- the professors who are interviewing me were the same ones I mentioned specifically by name in my statement about wanting to work with, one is new media performance, and the other does a lot of bio-art stuff (my BSA is in Biology from UT Austin)

Sounds super interesting, good luck with the interview!
