melody_23 Posted September 17, 2024 Posted September 17, 2024 Hello! Since the applications have been open for sometime, I thought I'd make a more recent thread to see if there are any other applicants this round. I'm applying for Japanese. I applied once about 5(!) years ago, so I'm hoping I might have a better shot this time around with more experience under my belt
tbell13579 Posted September 24, 2024 Posted September 24, 2024 Hello! I'm also applying to Blakemore this cycle, also for Japanese! Previously did the IUC summer program in 2021. I was glad to see your post...the internet is so quiet about this fellowship. How's your application going?
melody_23 Posted October 1, 2024 Author Posted October 1, 2024 Hello! Right now, I'm working on polishing my CV and essay
RickyRun3 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Hi all - I’m applying this fall for Korean. Thanks for starting this thread. Does anyone know if a portion of the interview (if selected) is conducted in the language you’re proposing to study, or if there’s otherwise a language assessment-portion of the application?
ILaila Posted February 6 Posted February 6 Hi everyone! I also applied to this fellowship and I'm going for Korean. I'm also curious if the interview is conducted in the language you're aiming for, kinda nervous about that since honing my speaking skills is why I applied to begin with. The committee will be meeting today so good luck!
ILaila Posted February 12 Posted February 12 Welp. Didn't get to the interview part. Hopefully someone here heard some good news!
genkidayo Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Hi! I'm also awaiting news for interview portion... I applied for Japanese! Has anyone heard back yet?
tbell13579 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Not yet...the Japanese committee ostensibly met on February 11th so definitely a little nervous that I've not been selected!
genkidayo Posted February 19 Posted February 19 Ah, I'm nervous too! I considered sending an email today to see when we might be hearing back... their last email said if we were selected as a finalist that we could prepare to interview on Feb 28th and that's right around the corner! I hope we both hear back soon!
tbell13579 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Didn't make it unfortunately. Good luck to those that do!
Bluechat103 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I also got the email today that I didn’t get it. I applied to Japanese! Does this hurt your chances of being accepted to IUC?
tbell13579 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 @Bluechat103 It shouldn't have a direct impact. Generally only ~3 students get the Blakemore Fellowship to study at the IUC while the IUC has a class of about 50-60 most years. Only issue is most IUC funding (per my understanding) is slowly given out starting in April and then through the summer. For those like me that will require significant scholarship support if I am to attend the IUC, that's a daunting wait.
Bluechat103 Posted February 20 Posted February 20 Same I would need financial support for the program but my first concern is even getting in to IUC first hahah. Good luck to everyone!!
wildgeese Posted February 24 Posted February 24 hey, did anyone here apply this cycle for chinese at ICLP or IUP? haven't heard anything back yet but i know the second committee still has to meet tomorrow....
Lionsmane666 Posted February 25 Posted February 25 Hi. I applied for ICLP/IUP and have not heard back yet. henny918 Posted March 13 Posted March 13 (edited) I also applied to ICLP, and it seems like the interview date they sent (March 11) has passed. Anyone happen to get any news? Edited March 13 by henny918
