Thank you for starting this topic!

Every year this is such a helpful resource for those who are applying to MSW programs in Canada. When I applied to my MSW there were no resources to guide me on the competitive MSW application process, and GradCafe was basically the only place I could connect with fellow applicants.

If you have concerns or worries about your application let us know - this is a solid space to get your questions and worries addressed.

Wishing you all the best this application season! 😊

You are correct. It usually picks up after Christmas after applications are submitted :)

For anyone who is looking for support with the application process in the meantime we have a very active group on FB with many people who are applying or who have recently went through the MSW application process -  Check out the group: MSW Master of Social Work Applications - MSW Helper

Has anyone applied for Laurier's spring 2025 entry? I am on the edge of my seat waiting for decisions to come out in November!

Oh I thought grad schools usually give out admission offers in Jan-May?

They do for September admission. Laurier has admissions in for fall, winter and spring. The offers for spring come out in November.

Hi all!

I'm planning on applying to U of Toronto's non-BSW entry this year (along with a few other schools), but U of T being my first choice this year.
I applied to Dalhousie U last year (in person, non-bsw entry) and was admitted, but ended up turning it down due to a lack of clinical focus in the program.

One thing that I am worried about with U of Toronto, after hearing back from their admission's coordinator, is that they don't consider courses taken post-graduation (after degree has been rewarded) in their calculation of GPA. I have taken about 5 courses post BA graduation in 2018 in order to upgrade my GPA, which has been quite successful- raising the "last year of study" GPA by 9%, to 85% as opposed to 76%. How do I navigate this, as I feel my undergrad GPA is really the only detrimental aspect to my application, which I have worked hard to ameliorate.

I otherwise have:

-Great references
-7 years of social sector work experience, focusing on youth and wanting to work clinically
-Hopefully a strong statement of purpose

Any guidance would be so greatly appreciated.

OOH That's awesome. My apologies; I did not know that! It makes me very happy that there is a program that has multiple admission times in the year. I wish more programs had this.

I wish I knew the answer to your question 😕 I just hope you get in, friend!

Hello! I am applying to York’s MSW program. I have 2 questions:

1. I can’t find any specific requirements for the CV on their website. Does anyone know if there is a page limit? Also, is it recommended that I include all of my experience thus far on my CV, or is it preferred if I only include relevant experiences?

2. For their Social Work Experience Form, what would they count as “social services” experience? Would my experience as a research analyst at a hospital doing clinical assessments as part of research count?

Thank you for any input you can provide!

Has anyone submitted or is currently working on an application for King's/ Western University? I know deadline is only 2 days away, but I haven't seen much posts about this school or much of any other schools on here this year. I recently submitted an application to the 2- year MSW program. I just wanted to hear how people felt about their application and the whole process in general :) Any comment would be nice, as I am freaking out even though I've already completed my application

Hello!! I posted like two months ago on reddit but should have just come here.

I'm anxiously waiting to hear back from WLU's advanced track part-time online. I have just over 8k hours of experience, had excellent references, a 3.9 GPA, and graduated with some honors/distinctions. I think my writing is solid as well. I will have to take a research methods course out of pocket because I did not take it for my BSW (got exempted). So I really wanna know so I can plan my next few months!

From all the posts I've been seeing online, it looks like a lot of people with a higher GPA have been applying. I was wondering if anyone with a lower GPA (but still meeting the requirements..or maybe not) applied and got into an MSW program?

Hi all —

So glad to not be alone in my crippling anxiety.

Anyone have an idea of when U of T Advanced Standing decisions will go out? Waiting on that, TMU, and York (I understand from alum that TMU and York don't usually communicate decisions until mid-March at the earliest).

Hi Mnaqi,

It seems that last year, people on reddit and gradcafe were receiving decisions between mid-Feb to May. However, MSW Advanced Standing seems to come out the first week of March - that's my guess!

Thank you @eik! That's more or less what I had in mind based on GradCafe and Reddit as well, but it's nice to have it confirmed. Looks like I'll be waiting until March. Sigh.

Got my acceptance to Dalhousie's non-BSW MSW stream this morning. So grateful and beyond relieved. Now I can stop checking GradCafe and Reddit's GradAdmissions every day stressing about results.

Best of luck everyone <3
