Nice! We seem to be applying to a lot of the same ones haha! I applied to Brown, Columbia, Michigan State, Northwestern, Princeton, Berkeley, Santa Barbara, Chicago, UIC, Michigan, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

What does your research center on? Mine broadly explores gender, family, and the life course. :)

Omg we overlap a lot too, I'm interested in gender, family, and life course as well. I applied to UW Madison, Indiana, U of Michigan, UNC, UCSB, Stanford, Cornell, and Northwestern

does anyone have any info on which schools do/don't interview for sociology in the top ~25?

I spoke with current PhD students from UCLA, Stanford, NYU, and Princeton, and they told me that they did not interview for their programs.

Ooohhh yes def lots of overlap!! My interests are at the intersection of soc of family, education, & immigration, looking at the relationships btw schools & latino families.

It feels so good to connect w other people in this process!!!

My research is Asian American culture/immigration and education! Definitely agree on connecting with other like-minded people :D

Yes! Not knowing where I will be moving is killing me lol. I am a chronic overplanner so this is horrid haha. When is everyone planning on moving? I think I will be at the end of May or the beginning of June. It's a bit early, but my partner and I have an apartment through our university and we have to move out the day after they graduate.

I would also love to hear more about your research! Not sure if you are on Reddit, but my username is the same if you want to chat about it through DMs.

My current lease goes until the start of august so I probably won’t move until the end of summer, which is stressful in its own way. It’s nice to have the extra time here but will be a mad dash to get everything sorted if I’ll be in a new location.
Unfortunately I’m not on Reddit :( a girl can only handle so many social media platforms at once lol

It seems results start coming in today - can any one confirm the UC Irvine interview I see on the results page? I also applied and I did not get anything today, so I am very anxious at the moment. Apparently most news should be out in these two weeks! wow

I also got an email invite to interview from UC Irvine for PhD Sociology program this past Thursday evening (1/16/25). I applied to 13 schools and so far they are the only one I have heard from.

Jumping in to ask: Has anyone heard anything from Stanford Sociology?

I also got a request for a 20 minute zoom call from another university -- not sure how to prep for it, but if anyone has any experience with a call like this I'd be super grateful to know what kinds of questions were asked!

I had two interviews my last cycle and they both worked (a little) differently. Both were very casual, and my sense is that tends to be how interviews go.

For Rutgers, it was a brief 20ish minute chat with a member of the admissions committee. This was a broader conversation about my background, my research interests, and my fit with the program. I was asked about where else I applied.

For Chicago, I had about a 45 minute conversation with a professor I was interested in working with. We chatted a little bit about my background and overlap with my advisors she knew, but we mostly talked about her research and mine and how they fit, and how I envisioned us working together. Still very casual, but I had to do far more prep for this one.

Feel free to DM me if you (or anyone else!) have more specific questions, either about interviews or the application process as a whole.

I see someone posted in Results that they were accepted to UC Berkeley, and someone posted they were accepted to UCLA. Can anyone confirm these results? Does this mean if we have not heard back from those schools at this point that we were likely rejected?

UCLA has historically used rolling admissions jsyk.

Has anyone heard from USC? Do they do waitlists? I was told by students from there that they do but I have never seen anyone posting here on gradcafe that they were waitlisted.

As an international student applying to UC programs, I find that UC Irvine and UCLA has admitted only American students in this cycle so far. I am wondering if it the concurrent funding issue is influencing international student admission in public schools this cycle? What do yall think?

hey, does anyone who applied to UNC this cycle know I they require GRE or not? they site says they do, but when I generically google it says they don't. looking to apply for fall 2025
